Burundi, Greenhouse Gases (GHG)
According to Kyoto ProtocolSix gases are associated with the anthropogenic portion of greenhouse gases (GHGs), but three are responsible for 98% of the effects: CO2 or carbon dioxide (79%), CH4 or methane (14%) and N2O or nitrous oxide (5%). Only the information of these first three components is retained here. The other three gases are HFCs or hydrofluorocarbons, PFCs or perfluorinated hydrocarbons and finally SF6 or sulphur hexafluoride. For ease of comparison, all GHGs are reduced to the same equivalent, CO2 in kilotonnes (kt), depending on their «Global warming potential»According to a multiplier prepared by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change): 1 for CO2, 25 for CH4 and 298 for N2O.
