GHG inventory

Burundi's commitments under the unconditional objective focused on
measures:

Install and Provide Indigenous Herbal Medicinal, Nutritional and Meliferous Plants
priority for users;

Install collected biopesticidal plants in Mahwa and Bukemba stations;

Inventory of diseases and pests in Burundi;

Develop cultivation practices that mitigate climate hazards;

Conduct at least 700 awareness sessions in hospitals and CDS;

Develop 7.5 km for non-motorized transport;

Develop a document on chemical waste management and treatment strategies.

The main achievements in agriculture and livestock, health,
infrastructure, transport and buildings are listed below.

(i) Agricultural sector

• 6 species of biopesticides are being promoted;
• List of organisms harmful to plants and plant products of Burundi established;
• Inventory of banana diseases and pests;
• Inventories of flies and cochenilles of fruit species;
• 12 agricultural practices mitigating the effects of climatic hazards developed and
promoted.

(ii) Health sector

• 150 household awareness sessions on climate change;
• Extension of 74 CDS to support VOCID 19.

(iii) Waste sector

• Promulgation of the Chemicals Management Code (Act No. 1/06 of 19 March)
2021 with a chemicals management code).
With regard to the conditional objective, the main achievements by sector are summarized below.

(i) Agricultural sector

• 134 varieties of different crops adapted to different agro-ecological zones
have been registered (36 maize varieties, 40 rice varieties, 5 cotton varieties, 11

varieties of cassava, 4 varieties of patchouli, 11 varieties of bean, 18 varieties of cane
sugar, 6 varieties of pepper, 1 variety of millet and 7 varieties of barley);
• 12 certified bio-fortified varieties (9 carotene-rich corn varieties and 3
varieties of sweet potato with orange flesh);
• Average annual production of 2155T dry seed (13.5T wheat, 976T of
Bean, 140T hybrid maize, 672T composite maize, 342T rice and 7T soybean) and
3160T potato;
• From 2020 to 2022: annual fish production increased by 13,485 T
• From 2020 to 2021 fishing increased by 358 tonnes;
• 134 pilot agro-sylvo-zootechnical integration system sites installed;
• Number of infrastructure rehabilitated and strengthened: Provincial Veterinary Centres:
6; Slaughter areas: 20; Slaughter: 4; Quarantine control centres
veterinary: 4; Livestock markets: 5.

(ii) Water resources

• 103.6 ha irrigated by colline holding

(iii) Energy

• Study on the project of strengthening 30 KV of the interior of Burundi and
Densification/electrification of the city of Bujumbura: resettlement action plan;
• 7 establishments with biogas installation.
(iv) Infrastructure, transport and buildings
• Bujumbura port under modernization
